Jerez MotoGP Circuit: Features

Jerez de la Frontera circuit was opened back in 1985 and hosted its first Motorcycle World Championship event two years later. The track, 4.4 km long with 13 turns, features various gradients and offers plenty of overtaking opportunities.

Spain MotoGP: History and Trivia

The first edition of the Spanish Motorcycle Grand Prix was held in 1950 at Montjuïc, near Barcelona. From the following year, the event became part of the Motorcycle World Championship circuit, with a hiatus between 1956 and 1960.

Starting from 1968, the race was held alternately between Montjuïc and the Jarama circuit, near Madrid, where it then moved permanently until 1986. From 1987, with the exception of a final "visit" to Jarama the following year, the Spanish MotoGP definitively moved to Jerez de la Frontera.

Here are some interesting facts about the Red Bull Ring circuit and the Austrian MotoGP:

The Circuit de Jerez-Ángel Nieto is named in memory of the Spanish rider Ángel Nieto, considered one of the greatest motorcycle champions of all time.
In 2020, the Jerez circuit hosted two MotoGP events: in addition to the usual Spanish one, the Andalusia GP was exceptionally held here.
Two corners of the track are dedicated to champions of the recent history of Spanish motorcycling: Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa.
